Job Description (JD)
The Legal Counsel will support Wave’s Senegal Legal Team by providing strategic legal guidance, contract management, regulatory compliance oversight, and risk mitigation support across business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Contracting & Negotiation
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts for marketing, PR, procurement, and service providers
- Support contracts across core fintech services including agents, payments, and operations
- Lead complex negotiations for high-value agreements
- Improve contract lifecycle systems including e-signatures and documentation processes
Legal Operations & Compliance
- Implement and update internal legal policies based on regulatory changes
- Support data privacy, consumer protection, and fintech compliance frameworks
- Ensure alignment with African financial regulatory requirements
Litigation & Dispute Management
- Manage legal disputes including pre-litigation, mediation, arbitration, and court processes
- Develop structured legal risk handling procedures
Corporate Governance
- Support board and shareholder meeting preparation
- Assist in company secretarial responsibilities
- Ensure proper corporate documentation and governance compliance
Risk & Internal Controls
- Collaborate with risk teams to identify legal and operational risks
- Implement mitigation strategies and compliance controls
Employment & HR Legal Support
- Provide legal guidance on employment contracts, disciplinary actions, and terminations
Education Requirements
- Master’s degree in Law (LLM preferred)
- Strong specialization in corporate, commercial, or financial law
Experience Required
- Minimum 5+ years legal experience
- Experience in mobile money, banking, fintech, or financial services
- Proven exposure to contract negotiation and corporate governance
- Experience in multi-jurisdictional African legal environments is an advantage
