Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mine Planning Engineer to join our Technical Services team in Kédougou, Senegal. This critical role involves developing, optimizing, and implementing mine plans that ensure safe, efficient, and profitable mining operations. The successful candidate will work closely with geology, operations, and management teams to create short-term and long-term mine designs, production schedules, and strategic plans. This position requires strong technical expertise in mine planning software, geological modeling, and economic evaluation. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain short-term, medium-term, and long-term mine plans and schedules for open pit operations.
- Conduct pit optimization studies using industry-standard software to determine optimal pit limits and mining sequences.
- Create detailed mine designs including pit designs, dump designs, and haul road designs that meet safety and operational requirements.
- Prepare production schedules that align with operational capabilities, equipment availability, and production targets.
- Collaborate with geology teams to incorporate geological models and resource estimates into mine planning processes.
- Conduct economic evaluations of mining scenarios to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Monitor and report on plan versus actual performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain mine planning databases, ensuring data integrity and accuracy for planning activities.
- Participate in reserve estimation and reporting processes in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide technical support to operations teams regarding mine planning, design implementation, and schedule adherence.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize mining methods and increase efficiency.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for management review and regulatory compliance.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in mine planning software such as Surpac, Vulcan, MineSight, or similar applications.
- Strong understanding of open pit mining methods, equipment capabilities, and mining economics.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret geological data and technical information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and modeling.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements in Senegal.

Education
A Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field is required for this position. Additional qualifications such as a Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering or specialized certifications in mine planning software would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of mining principles, geology, and mine economics. Experience
The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of experience in mine planning within the mining industry, preferably in open pit gold mining operations. Experience with mine planning software and geological modeling tools is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of developing and implementing successful mine plans that meet production targets and operational requirements.
