Job Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Satellite Earth Station Technician to join our operations team in Saint-Louis. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of our ground segment infrastructure. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex satellite communication systems, including antennas, RF equipment, and baseband processing units. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on satellite earth station equipment, including high-power amplifiers and low-noise converters.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex RF interference issues and signal degradation problems in real-time.
- Manage the installation and commissioning of new satellite terminals and ground station hardware.
- Coordinate with the Network Operations Center to ensure seamless integration of satellite links into the broader telecommunications network.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation and logs for all maintenance activities and equipment performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with international safety standards and local regulatory requirements for telecommunications infrastructure.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of RF theory, satellite link budgets, and modulation techniques.
- Proficiency in using spectrum analyzers, power meters, and other specialized telecommunications test equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure during system outages.
- Experience with IP networking, routing, and switching protocols as they relate to satellite data transmission.
- Excellent communication skills in French and English to collaborate with international engineering teams.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing antenna structures and working in outdoor environments.
Education
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant industry certifications such as GVF (Global VSAT Forum) or equivalent satellite communications training are highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in satellite ground station operations, telecommunications maintenance, or a similar technical field is required. Experience with C-band and Ku-band systems is essential for this role.
