Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Railway Infrastructure Modernization Engineer to join our team in Thiès, Senegal. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the transformation of Senegal’s railway infrastructure, working on projects that will shape the future of transportation in the region. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, planning, and implementing modernization initiatives for railway systems, ensuring they meet international standards while addressing local requirements.
The Railway Infrastructure Modernization Engineer will be responsible for assessing existing railway infrastructure, developing modernization strategies, and overseeing implementation projects. This role requires a deep understanding of railway engineering principles, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. The position offers the chance to work on landmark projects that will significantly improve transportation efficiency and safety across Senegal. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing railway infrastructure and identify areas requiring modernization
- Develop detailed engineering designs and specifications for railway modernization projects
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely and within-budget implementation of modernization initiatives
- Implement quality control measures and ensure compliance with international railway standards
- Collaborate with government agencies, contractors, and local communities to ensure project success
- Monitor project progress and provide regular reports to senior management and stakeholders
- Develop maintenance protocols and operational procedures for modernized railway systems
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in railway infrastructure modernization
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of railway engineering principles and infrastructure design
- Proficiency in CAD software and railway design tools
- Excellent project management and organizational abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering or Infrastructure Management is preferred. Professional engineering certification and additional training in railway systems will be considered an advantage.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in railway infrastructure projects, with at least 3 years specifically in modernization or upgrade projects. Experience working in West Africa or similar developing markets is highly desirable. Proven track record in managing complex engineering projects from conception to completion.
