Job Overview

As a Disaster Risk Management Specialist, you will spearhead initiatives to assess, mitigate, and respond to climate-induced and natural disaster risks in Rosso’s coastal and rural communities. This role integrates technical expertise with stakeholder collaboration to build long-term resilience across Senegal’s most vulnerable regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct hazard vulnerability assessments for coastal erosion, flooding, and drought in Rosso’s districts
  • Design and implement community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) programs
  • Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and international partners on early warning systems
  • Develop training modules for emergency response teams and community volunteers
  • Monitor climate data and produce risk mitigation reports for government stakeholders

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in disaster risk management or climate adaptation projects
  • Expertise in GIS mapping for hazard modeling and spatial analysis
  • Strong project management skills with a track record in multi-stakeholder coordination
  • Fluency in French and Wolof preferred
  • Certification in ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Management) or similar

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Disaster Risk Management, or Public Policy
  • Certifications in Climate Resilience Planning or Emergency Management

Experience

  • 3-5 years in disaster risk management, climate adaptation, or related fields
  • Previous work in West African environmental projects strongly preferred

Salary

2,500,000 – 3,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience
