Job Overview
The Cultural Heritage Documentation Specialist will lead efforts to digitally map, archive, and promote the intangible cultural heritage of Kolda and surrounding regions. This role combines fieldwork, community engagement, and advanced digital tools to create a living record of Senegal’s cultural assets. The position is ideal for candidates passionate about preserving traditions while leveraging technology for global outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to document oral histories, traditional crafts, and cultural practices in Kolda.
- Collaborate with local elders, artists, and community leaders to identify and prioritize heritage sites and practices.
- Utilize GIS mapping, 3D scanning, and digital archiving tools to create interactive cultural heritage databases.
- Develop educational materials and virtual exhibits to promote cultural awareness locally and internationally.
- Coordinate with UNESCO’s global heritage team to align projects with international standards.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and digital archiving platforms.
- Strong project management skills with experience in cross-cultural collaboration.
- Fluency in French and Wolof, with knowledge of other regional languages an asset.
- Experience in ethnographic research and oral history documentation.
- Ability to work independently in remote field conditions.
Education
Master’s degree in Anthropology, Cultural Heritage Management, Digital Humanities, or related field. A combination of formal education and relevant fieldwork may be considered.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in cultural documentation, heritage preservation, or community-based research projects. Prior work in West Africa or with UNESCO programs is highly desirable.
Salary
2,500,000 – 3,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience.
