Job Overview

The Aquaculture Development Specialist will lead initiatives to design and implement sustainable aquaculture projects in Diourbel, Senegal. This role supports WorldFish’s mission to increase fish production while protecting ecosystems. The position requires collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and international partners to advance aquaculture technologies and training programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute aquaculture projects focused on fish breeding, pond management, and water quality control.
  • Conduct field research to assess the feasibility of new aquaculture techniques in Senegal’s inland water systems.
  • Train local farmers and cooperatives on sustainable aquaculture practices and climate adaptation strategies.
  • Collaborate with government bodies to align projects with national fisheries policies and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor project outcomes and prepare technical reports for stakeholders and funding partners.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in aquaculture project management with a focus on West African ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of aquatic biology, fish nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Experience in community engagement and capacity-building programs.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis using GIS or aquaculture software.
  • Fluency in French and local languages (Wolof, Pulaar) is an asset.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Certifications in sustainable aquaculture practices or project management are preferred.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in aquaculture development, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Project management experience in international development or NGO environments.

Salary

2,500,000 – 3,500,000 XOF per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
